The 22-year old Korean pianist was brought to the world’s attention in October 2015 when he won the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competiton. Four years before he had won 3rd Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition. After his successful performances in Warsaw last year, Financial Times praised his “lucid and shimmering” sound, and The Telegraph wrote of Cho’s “unequivocally brilliant” performance at the competition’s celebratory concert.

The International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition is very proud to present a new winner of one of the world’s most prestigious competitions. The Chopin Competition has produced many famous winners and finalists from the beginning in 1927, such as Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimerman and Rafal Blechacz.

Cho is the first Korean ever to win the Chopin Competition. The CD with his performances in Warsaw has sold more than 50.000 copies in his home country, a number qualifying for platinum several times. He recently signed a recording contract with the Deutsche Grammophon, following the record-breaking success of his debut album.

With his overwhelming talent and natural musicality, Cho is now rapidly embarking on a world-class career and is considered one of the most distinctive artists of his generation.
